The Centre designs, organizes, conducts and evaluates research and initiatives aimed at identifying and applying the most appropriate interventions in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the elderly population. In this perspective, it uses the expertise of clinical epidemiology to collaborate with the other structures of the Institute in the planning and implementation of clinical studies and for the development and implementation of intervention projects, guidelines and behavioural protocols
The activities of the Centre in the Epidemiology area concern:
Methodological support in the field of clinical and epidemiological research (hard endpoints and surrogates, quality of life assessment methods, studies on the effectiveness of care, territorial surveys on the quality of care)
Research in the field of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM)
Collaboration in the preparation and evaluation of clinical practice guidelines and diagnostic-therapeutic pathways
Collaboration with the Study and Research Laboratory in Biostatistics, with the Clinical Trials structure and with data managers
Research in the field of economic evaluation of health interventions (Health Technology Assessment) in collaboration with the UO Welfare Models.
Moreover, the Centre conducts activities in the Biostatistics area with the aim of ensuring statistical analysis and statistical-methodological support to be applied to the clinic, laboratory, genetics and studies in the health and social areas.
Statistical analysis for publications or internal / external reports
Statistical support for the drafting of research projects proposals (sample selection, randomization, study design, etc.)
Database creation and maintenance:
Creation of the database: preparation of a new database starting from the data collection sheet
Check of the cleanliness and consistency of a newly compiled database
Update: in the case of longitudinal studies, the laboratory will take care of merging the follow-up data to the source database
Centre members are also available to organize and carry out training and updating activities on basic topics of epidemiology and statistics in order to develop knowledge in this area and promote the use of statistical softwares in endowment to research centers. The members of the Centre, upon request, can also give their contribution in the case of training activities outside the Centre that require statistical content
